NATALIA MEZHERITSKAYA
I was born in Moscow in the USSR and have witnessed an unbelievable political, economical, cultural and social transformation. Life in soviet era and diversity of post-soviet world triggered my thoughts about destruction, demolition of mythology, transformation, evolving of something new, which contains particles from the past.
Thus forming and reconstructing the new edges of Reality and my own place in it, using different media, ideas and concepts, became an important part of my art interests. Fragility of seemingly solid elements, their dramatic and traumatising collapse and subsequent rebirth into something new became for me a lifestyle and even a way to perceive reality.
Analyzing the past and it's echoes in the present in every certain project I use new forms and materials, for example, expanded polystyrene, wax, foam blocks, found objects. Usually it's a combination of fragility and rigidity. By adding digital media and painting I give them rebirth and integrity recovery via the embodiment of the idea.
